Babys first kick how does it feel

Feeling baby kick for the first time is an exciting and memorable milestone in pregnancy. I can still remember where I was and what I was doing when I felt my first baby kick for the first time in my car, driving to the grocery store. I also remember wondering when I would feel it and what it would feel like -- it's hard to know what you're looking for when it's never happened before!

I felt my first baby kicks in my first pregnancy around 17 weeks, but the reality is that you can feel baby kick almost anytime in the second trimester, from around weeks, on average.

A smaller percentage of parents will feel kicks earlier and later than that time frame. Babies begin moving from very early on in pregnancy, but when you actually feel those movements depends on different factors, like whether this is your first pregnancy, the position of your placenta, and your ability to recognize what you feel as baby's movement.

If you are 25 weeks and still do not feel movement, it's a good idea to talk to your care provider. Everyday at a consistent time generally when you feel baby move most , sit comfortably with your feet up in a dark, quiet room. Next, count each movement of any kind until you reach 10 kicks, rolls, flutters or flops.

This could take less than 30 minutes or up to two hours. Record your pattern and refer to it daily. Read more: Pregnancy weight gain: How much is normal What to expect during ultrasounds. When should you be worried? If your baby happens to be moving around during an early ultrasound, the tech might mention it to you, but otherwise you may never know! Some pregnant people can feel their baby kick as early as 13 to 15 weeks into the pregnancy, but closer to 18 weeks is more typical.

Many factors can influence when you first feel them, and kicks are usually felt earlier in subsequent pregnancies, since experienced parents know what to look for. The person carrying the baby will feel the kicks first, but partners or others you allow may feel the baby kicking as early as 20 weeks. Interestingly, pregnant people carrying twins are not likely to feel kicks any sooner than those carrying singletons.

Early movements are typically felt low in the abdomen and described as something similar to a flutter. It may feel like a wave or even a fish swimming. For some, the movement can feel similar to gas or hunger pangs, which can make it tricky to initially identify as kicks. This likely means that they have started hiccupping , which is completely harmless.

By the third trimester when your baby is more cramped and better developed, the movements will likely be stronger and pack more of a punch.

It feels incredible, like fluttering, and as the months progressed it would get more aggressive. From the outside my husband said it looked like an alien was inside my belly. Am I imagining things? We would play this game where she would kick and I would push back a bit.

Closer to the end, I could see her kicking, which is the weirdest thing ever. It is both comforting and terrifying to carry a tiny human inside of you — you are never alone, but it also feels like a little parasite and you are so terrified about eating the wrong thing or falling or the million other things that can go wrong.

I was lying in bed on my back and I felt a little flutter within me. I had seen the sonogram and obviously knew a baby was inside me, but feeling that movement for the first time made it more real. I marveled at the life inside of me, immediately touched my stomach, and felt more protective of the little baby I was in charge of growing.

The kicks become addictive — you are always waiting for another one. In the beginning, it is so light that you will wonder if it is actually happening. To me, it felt like a twitch in my stomach, as though my muscles were contracting slightly. Feeling your baby kick for the first time and each subsequent time is a truly incredible feeling.
