In confirmation God's promise to the individual made at baptism is confirmed: God confirms his promise to be with the baptised always and he or she receives the blessing and a special greeting from the church in the form of a Bible verse that is thought of as a kind of life companion.

Confirmation is not a sacrament in the Evangelical Lutheran Church but a rite that also marks the passage from childhood to youth. Confirmation presupposes baptism and a time of preparation.

Together with his or her classmates or other teenagers from the parish the candidate for confirmation meets with a pastor once a week for most of a school year to learn about Christianity and to talk about life's big questions and about what it means to believe in God. Confirmation is something you choose and not something you need to celebrate if you have been baptised as a child.

Every confirmand will gain a greater understanding of the Word of God and trust and believe that it is the authority in which we live our lives.

Every confirmand will be equipped to defend their faith in Jesus and be able to give reasons as to why they trust Jesus as their personal Savior. Every confirmand will understand their place in the body of Christ and the Christian church. It teaches you about the promises that God has made to you and how you can depend on those promises during your lives.

At the end of the Confirmation program you will have a deeper, more personal and honest idea about what you believe and who God is. You will learn how to live out that faith in the church and world. Here is how we are going to do that. We are going to study scripture, Baptism, Communion , and the teachings of Martin Luther. We are going to learn through our actions as well as through worship and doing acts of service for others. You will have the chance to talk about what you are learning about your faith at home with your parents and at church with your pastors, teachers, and each other.

It is our goal that at the end of all these classes you will stand before the church and make a statement of faith that is meaningful for you.
