Although a good chunk of the movie was shot in and around Astoria, many of the movie scenes were actually filmed along the coast of the northern state, which is a fair distance from the small town of Astoria. The Goonies house is instantly recognizable to avid fans, with its whitewash panels and panoramic veranda. But how much did The Goonies house sell for? But then in , it was The Goonies 20th anniversary and Sandi instantly became inundated with avid fans wanting to get a closer look at their favorite movie home.
Following the event, Sandi told media that she could expect as many as 1, people per day coming to get a closer look at her home. But she was unaware of the impact living in the house would have on her day to day life. She says although some of the fans get in the way and are often intrusive, most of them are not a nuisance. She had brought his ashes to Oregon. I asked if she wanted to scatter some in the garden, which was in full bloom, so she and her family did that. It was so sweet.
I read online that another person did that, in the middle of the night, without asking permission. Oh well, part of owning this house, I guess.
However, after the 30th anniversary took place in , Sandi could not take it any longer. The event attracted 15, people to Astoria. Fans were disrespectful, leaving beer bottles and cigarette buds in the driveway, and she was tired of having no privacy in her own home. She resulted in covering her home in giant pieces of blue tarp in an attempt to gain back more of a personal and private life.
Every year there's a Goonies festival in Astoria and this house is a major attraction for fans. Definitely take a video of yourself doing the truffle shuffle! So cool. I wanted to go up on the balcony SO BAD but restrained myself as I'm sure the family who lives there now wouldn't have liked it very much.

To try and stop people from coming to the house, a trespassing sign and a number of other signs have been put up telling people to stay away. More recently Sandi has gone even further, Sandi covered her house in a blue tarp in an effort to stop fans turning up.
This is something we have seen at many other movie-houses, the owners of the Home Alone house even got the house blurred out on Google Maps for privacy. The house has now been covered in tarp to try and stop fans from coming to the house.
Who has now become a prisoner in her own home. One of the signs telling Goonies fans to stay away from the property. Another Goonies sign warning fans off approaching the house. The film written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus and directed by Richard Donner follows four adolescent boys on an adventure to find the mysterious treasure of the pirate One-Eyed Willy. Not only is it exciting but the Goonies are on a race against time to find a way to save their homes from developers.
The movie has become a cult-classic among those of us who grew up in the s. In June , the Never Say Die! Fans from around the world converged to watch the movie in the Columbian Theater as well as travel to the various locations used in the film. June 5th-7th, , saw Astoria celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Goonies , featuring a "Sail with Sloth" boat ride, a 5k Truffle Shuffle fun run, a "Farewell to Warren Field" the football field from the opening sequence , a Goonies trivia night, as well as public tours of the various filming locations around Astoria.
Jeff Cohen Chunk attended as well as talked about his memories of filming. The opening of The Goonies begins with the dramatic jail break of Jake Fratelli. His brother Francis Fratelli literally sets the parking lot ablaze while Mama Fratelli waits in the Jeep.
The original jail for Clatsop County was used from until it was decommissioned in The longest used, free-standing jail in Oregon, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in , two years before The Goonies was released. In the exciting car chase that begins the film, Lawrence 'Chunk' Cohen, one of the four main characters, is seen eating pizza when he sees the Fratelli's black Jeep and police cars race past the bowling alley windows.
Fun fact: the pizza Chunk is pressing up against the bowling alley window was placed to strategically cover the McDonald's sign that reflected from across the street. Even twenty years later, LC Bowl is still in operation. Home to Mikey and Brand Walsh, as well as headquarters to the Goonies, this house features at the center of the plot. In a few days' time, Mr Walsh will be forced to sign papers and sell the house to developers who want to tear it down. Mikey and his friends are desperate to find a way to stop this, as they don't want to move away!
Luckily a trip into the attic reveals a treasure map that might possibly lead them to a solution to all their problems! Located at 38th Street, Astoria, OR, this is one of the most memorable visuals in the entire film. Although the present owners don't mind you walking up the gravel drive and taking a picture of yourself in front of the house, please remember to never drive your up vehicle the driveway hill. And please be courteous and don't bother them or try to peek inside!
And you might say he likes to "drop" in from time to time! Seen only for a handful of seconds in the film, Data's house is literally right next to the Goonies house.
So you might as well snap a picture of you yelling "I want my bike! I want my bike! After "tying" his brother Brand up, Mikey, Mouth, Chunk, and Data race down the hill into town bent on trying to find their way to One-Eyed Willy's treasure.
On the way they pass the local museum where Mikey's dad works. In reality, the Flavel House was an actual home before being donated to the city of Astoria. Located at 8th Street, in Astoria, OR, it is actually located directly across the street from the original Clatsop County Jail used in the opening sequence. Built in for Capt. George Flavel and his family, this Queen Anne-style home is now a museum. If you're in town on the travel of the Goonies, definitely take a break and visit it!
This isn't all the filming locations used in the movie -- there are others in Oregon and California that I haven't yet had a chance to visit. But here's a list of them in case you can!
Ecola State Park entrance : Right off Hwy. You can see them riding their bikes along the drive. Andy is coaching the cheerleaders into a pyramid formation. The field was built over in late , as an treatment center extension of OHSU. Used in the scene when the Goonies match the doubloon to find the hideout of the Fratelli's.
The Lighthouse Lounge: Although it was built as a set inside Ecola State Park, the actual building itself no longer exists. But with a little hard work you can find the place where it used to reside!
