Want to keep your number when you switch to Sprint? Simply port it over. Porting is transferring your phone number from one carrier to another.
You can port aka transfer your number to Sprint in just a few easy steps. Prepare them in advance for a quicker process. Shop as you normally would for a new device or bring your own. This step will not affect your current phone service. Call us at to set up your phone number with Sprint once you receive your new device or SIM kit. Once all four steps have been completed, you can check the status of your transfer at any time.
Your number must be active in order to transfer it to Sprint. Your existing phone service will continue to work until the transfer is complete. Phone numbers that are not associated with a device are not eligible for transfer. You can check your number's eligibility here. Even though Wireless Local Number Portability WLNP has been available nationwide since May 24, , there are other factors that determine whether or not a specific number can be transferred, and WLNP may not be available from all telecommunications' companies.
To be transferred, numbers must be in a current Sprint Network coverage area. If you are a Sprint Business customer and would like to port a toll free , , , number to Sprint, please contact your internal Sprint representative or Account Manager. Your number is only portable if it is active on your old service provider's network.
Once your number has been approved for transfer, the old number and account will automatically be deactivated with the old service provider. Note: If you directly contact your old service provider and deactivate your account before or during the porting process, your number will no longer be available to bring to Sprint.
To expedite the transfer, we request that you have a current bill from your existing carrier to provide us with your customer information, especially the following:. Most ports are completed within a day if you purchased the phone at a store.
Typical wireless number transfers can be completed in as little as 10 minutes from the time you receive your device, if all the information is correct at that time.
Ports are not processed on holidays. Note: There's a small chance you might experience system issues while porting from your previous carrier. You will be responsible for paying all applicable fees to your current provider until the WLNP process has been completed. Additionally, if you are subject to a subscriber agreement, you may be obligated to pay early termination fees or accelerated charges to your current provider.
T-Mobile has previously said that it will take about three years to fully integrate Sprint into its operations and network setup. Similarly, phones, tablets, and other devices will continue to launch separately for each network as they come out — at least for the time being, although there are plans for a more unified hardware setup down the line.
Billing and payments for Sprint customers will still be the same as usual, although there may be updated branding on the actual bill they receive in the future. In a similar vein, Sprint prepaid customers including Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile , who will eventually be heading to Dish as part of the merger deal, will still remain with Sprint for now. The new T-Mobile also plans to keep its T-Mobile and Sprint locations as they are, which makes sense given that the two customer bases will largely remain separate during this time.
